Ristar, 1995
Ristar is a pretty underrated, somewhat ignored platformer for the Sega Genesis and Game Gear.  You play a little anthropomorphic shooting star whose weapons are his stretchy arms.  You attack enemies by reaching out to them, and them smashing them against your head.  And naturally, the game plays to these strengths, as there are a lot of swinging, hanging, and reaching mechanics.
Both games are beautiful, especially on the Game Gear, which exhibits multiple plane scrolling and bright colors.  The sprites are large and well-animated, and it’s a genuinely fun game.
